Intern on a Road Trip.. Well Kinda

I leave tomorrow for ATLANTA GEORGIA! So the whole reason i am an intern in the first place is because I was fortunate enough to be chosen for the NLA (nonprofit leadership alliance) NexGen Scholarship program. Long story short, NLA pays for my internship! My university has a partnership with the NLA where if students complete a 300 hour internship, take the NLA class, attend the Alliance Management Institute, and graduate then the student will become a Certified Nonprofit Professional!

This is a nationally recognized certification and can go a loooong way in the NPO world. ANY WHO!! That is why i am doing my internship! I went to the required conference last January in Kansas City Missouri, and tomorrow i leave to go again. This year it is in the ATL! At the conference there are numerous workshops based on different areas of the Nonprofit world, speakers, fancy dinners, an expo of different organizations, and practice interviews! Last year it was so much fun. I made really good friends with others in my field who went to my school and met some really cool people from other schools!

My Workshops are:

Creating and Sustaining A Special Event

Communication and Leadership Styles

Proposal Writing: Foundations and Government Grants

All Things HR

Nonprofit Leadership Competencies

Then every student is apart of a Case study where we go to a local nonprofit, they give us an actual issue they have and we brainstorm for about 3 hours and come up with a solution. I was extremely nervous last year and it turned out well. This year my case study is at Voices for Georgia’s Children; a nonprofit based on “child policy and advocacy organization that envisions a Georgia where children are safe, healthy, educated, employable, and connected to their family and community”

I am also going to a leadership session which should be interesting. I dont really know what to expect out of that, but I cant say no to an opportunity to expand my leadership skills! I have never really been to Atlanta. Therefore i am super excited and plan on blogging about my whole experience!!

STAY TUNED!
